"True. Beethoven was insane as well, to a lesser extent, but his work touches the soul in the same way, don't you agree?"

He awkwardly ran his thumb over her hand, not out of fondness but because of nerves. She kept on sipping that damned smoothie; the sound, the mere sight of her red lips sucking on the straw made him thirstier. It was like an itch it would be improper to scratch in public.

"Indeed they do," she said, using her free hand to scoop up whipped cream and lick it from the straw.

"You know, a lot of artists used to have diseases as well," he said, scratching his neck. "Syphilis was common, as was anemia.

"You have a delightful pallor, you know--perhaps you should eat more meat? Anemia can sap a pretty young girl's vitality."

He tried not to think about it, but his mouth felt so dry. All he wanted was a sip, a sip from any neck really.

"I quite like red meat, actually. Elegant ladies aren't supposed to, but I enjoy meat when it's red, dripping with blood." She chuckled. "What about you?"

He was about ready to strangle her--not so he could feed off of her, but so he could get her to stop making him thirsty.

"That sounds....unhealthy, for a young lady. Perhaps for a gentleman like myself, but.." He smiled crypticly, hoping she would change the subject.

"Ooh, and I really love tomato juice, too. Bloody Mary's are delicious. Oh, do you drink?"

"I don't drink...alcohol," he said, really wanting to bodily harm this girl. What kind of inconsiderate bitch went on about stuff like this?! Still, he couldn't bring himself to say anything.

"Why don't we speak of something else?"

"Yes, food is a really unpleasant topic on a first date, I've noticed," she chuckled at a joke that Gottfried wasn't supposed to get. "Anyway, back to paintings, hm?"

"Why don't you tell me about yourself," he suggested, hoping she'd get bored and leave.

"There's nothing much to me," she shrugged. "I work for a boring company, file, do paperwork, type a lot. I usually spend my work days putting deco on my nails."

She chuckled.

"Sometimes I even sew in the office."

"Do tell," he pressed. If she was bored with herself, perhaps she'd leave if that was all they talked about.

"I assure you, miss, you fascinate me. Elaborate, I implore you."

"I love to research art, and I love classical music..." she hummed slightly. "I also love fashion, modern and old. Fascinating, really, I could talk for hours about fashion, but I won't bore you."

"I'll trade an answer for an answer," he suggested, "but you must give me a good one--you must be the most fascinating woman I've ever met." He tugged idly at his scarf; the roughly painted walls seemed to close in on him. It was far too cramped in here, with all the warm, blood-filled creatures sitting around and drinking lattes.

"I grew up in Florence, Italy, until I moved here when I was about five. I can only speak a little Italian, though." she sighed. "Anyway, I liked to go to art museums and my mom would always take me there..."

She smiled.

"And now I'm grown up and work at a stupid office job."
