A Forced First Date Is Not Usually A Good One

Lydia ate with relish, glad they finally had something to talk about. She loved animals far more than humans; it was nice to finally feel in her own element.

Renee stared at her. How dare they have things in common. She stopped texting, instead drinking her soda.

Lydia was unperturbed.

"Im glad we have something in common :) Do u like Back 2 the future? Maybe u can come over and watch with me sometime."

"No, I'll never go to your house." She replied adamantly.

"Thats ok, I can come 2 urs :) :) :)" she replied in seconds.

"No, I don't want you in my house." She texted, sipping her drink. How she loathed where this conversation was going.

"I like movie theaters 2 :)"

"Too romantic. We aren't dating," she responded curtly.

"Friends go all the time. We can invite some other people :)"

"I assure you that our friends are not the same sort of people."

"Were both friends with Max y not him?? :)"

"Max is not your friend."

"He says he is so he works" she replied. "Besides hes ur friend, so invite him if u dont want 2 go alone with me :)"

"No." She replied adamantly.

"Thats ok we can just go alone :) :) :) :)" She smiled brightly at Renee, batting her eyelashes.

"No," she replied simply. "In fact, never. Never will we ever be alone together, not even for a second."

"Ok cool Max says he can come :) I just texted him."

Renee stood up, looking more furious than she had the entire date. She held out her hand, expecting to see Lydia's phone.

Lydia took her hand gladly, pleasantly surprised by the show of affection.

Renee slapped her. She grabbed the phone, sitting back down and looking through the messages she had sent Max.

Sure enough, the newest message was one from Max, stating that he'd come see the movie with them.

She narrowed her eyes, looking through the logs of Max's and Lydia's messages.

Luckily, Lydia had been smart enough to conduct most of her threats in person, so there wasn't much incriminating evidence. She just sat there innocently, smiling at Renee and rubbing her pink cheek.

Frustrated, Renee shoved the phone into her glass of soda before she stood up to leave. If she ignored Lydia, there was nothing she could do.

Lydia stared at her, confused.

She said something unclear, and gestured at the phone. The smile had faded from her face; left only was a look of pure hurt, something she had never displayed at school.
