Carmilla nursed her still-full coffee, pretending to hang onto the jock's every word. He was big and healthy; she looked forward to snacking on him.

While she tried to think of nearby allies she could drag him into to feed, she noticed a blond in the back of the coffee shop.

She bit her lip; the girl was gorgeous. Though she tried to focus on the conversation, or even her feeding plans, soon she found herself visualizing herself and the girl in a secluded alley. Carmilla could practically feel her fangs digging into the supple flesh of her neck, while the girl tangled her fingers in her hair...

She didn't notice when the jock left.

Esteri didn't want to be noticed. She rarely went out as it was. She carefully managed herself, trying to blend in as much as possible. She didn't want an unpleasant surprise from her Finnish ex.

But she couldn't just let someone stare at her, either. It was impossible. She stood up and walked to Carmilla.

"Is there something you need?"

Carmilla jumped, spilling her coffee all over herself.

"N-n-no, I, uh...shit." She reached for a napkin, and she could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, though she wasn't sure what for, exactly.

Esteri grabbed a few napkins and pressed them to where Carmilla had spilled the coffee.

"Sorry," she said, though she barely looked sorry. "You were staring at me, I figured you saw."

"I was staring?" she asked, grinning sheepishly. Maybe if she played dumb, the human would just forget it and move on.

"Yes," she said. "Did you need something?"

Shit.

"No, no, not at all, I was just--um--I'm a psychology student," she stammered, looking for an excuse.

Esteri raised an eyebrow.

"...so?"

A single drop of sweat formed on her face, and it wasn't from the heat of the coffee. She'd have to think of a better lie, and fast.

"...No! I'm sorry, of course being a psychology student has nothing to do with staring," she giggled awkwardly. "I meant to say I'm...an art student! Yes, I'm an art student, and uh, I...I want to draw you. You have a...very pretty face." She looked down as she said the last part, wringing her hands.

Esteri leaned closer.

"Stop. Lying," she replied sternly. "Did he send you here?"

She blinked, frowning.

"He who? You mean the guy I was just talking to? Because I'd never met him before, we're not even friends--he just bought me a coffee, is all." She didn't know why she was making excuses, and yet she stumbled over them, one after another. Something in her wanted this girl to know how single she was.

Esteri paused.

"...oh. Are you trying to hit on me?" she asked, and suddenly her scary expression was gone. She smiled softly.
