"Clarissa, if you want to stay in this house you are finishing high school," he said adamantly. "No excuses--in fact, you should be going to college, since I have the money. But high school is an absolute requirement."

She looked heartbroken.

"Not you, too...I've learned more from you than I have from school! Isn't that better than school?"

"Clarissa, you need an education to function in the modern world," he insisted. "...Look, I can get you a private tutor, but you must finish high school. Please--consider it all I ask of you in return for staying here."

"I don't want to function in the modern world!" She insisted, but she gave in. "...fine. I expect that tutor."

He sighed.

"You wouldn't rather finish high school among your peers? Or even in a nice private institution?"

"I don't have any friends. I don't like regular people." She said stubbornly, but also truthfully.

Shaking his head, he kissed her on the cheek.

"Ah, sometimes I wonder what I'm going to do with you--but so be it, I'll set up one of the rooms for your learning, and arrange to find you a teacher."

Clarissa pulled Alois into a hug.

"Alois, I have something else I want to talk about..."
